The Jordanian Living Lab is located in the Jerash and Balqa governorates, which are characterised by mixed agricultural and forestry landscapes. The main sustainability challenges include water scarcity, soil degradation and the need to increase productivity and improve soil organic carbon (SOC) content in order to strengthen adaptation to climate change in agroforestry systems.
The network will comprise 20 farms and will be organised through Farmer Field Schools (FFS) and agricultural cooperatives in northern Jordan, as well as collaborating with local experts.
The identified ‘lighthouse’ farms are:
In Jerash: an olive grove covering over 4 hectares.
In Balqa’a: an olive grove covering over 2.5 hectares containing trees that are over 10 years old.
